In this blog post, I take a look at United Airlines' route network expansion plans and what the significance of this announcement is, both for United Airlines and for the aviation industry. I also take a look at why the A321XLR is playing such a key role in the airline's expansion plans and how the airline's use of this unique aircraft compares to other airlines already using the aircraft, and whether or not other airlines could copy United's strategy. United Airlines has announced the largest international network expansion in its history with ten new international cities and three new routes across Europe and Asia. Many of these routes will be flown by the new Airbus A321XLR aircraft which United debuted with the phrase 'Born to Explore'.

I've just published a new blog post!

On 10 July 2026 Ryanair flight 1879 (operated by Malta Air), from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, operated by a Boeing 737-8AS aircraft experienced an uncontained engine failure as it was climbing out from Thessaloniki. Debris destroyed a cabin window, causing a rapid decompression. The aircraft returned to Thessaloniki where it landed safely.

In this blog post I take a look at what we know so far about this event. I will examine what the preliminary report details and what it could mean for the investigation going forward.
